“INTERMISSION”

Universal Works is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Yogi, certified masters of the laidback moccasin, available for AW23.
Featuring two versions of Yogi’s chunky, ranger-style Finn moc, as well as a low-top, slip-on rework of their classic Hitch shoe, it’s a collection
built on shared ideas about style, comfort and craft, with an undercurrent of playful experimentation.
The project takes Yogi’s quality, comfort, and understated style – and adds a Universal Works touch. Co-founder David Keyte, a long-standing
admirer of Yogi, explains, “I have a genuine love of Yogi. They really do make something that can provide the comfort of a sneaker whilst
fulfilling the need for a proper shoe. That's easier said than done, but Yogi always manages to pull it off.”
In this case, the "Finn", a true classic amongst Yogi's roster, comes with a tumbled leather and reverse tumble upper, available in a choice of
two-tone colourways: cola and brown, or black and khaki. A third version incorporates a cheeky leopard print faux fur on the vamp. “The
leopard print detail was inspired by a Yogi mule I’d seen a while back,” David adds. “When I saw it, I knew we had to include it, and it
somehow gives the shoes a hint of rock ‘n’ roll. In the end, it’s my hope that what we’ve ended up with are shoes The Clash might consider
wearing if they were still playing.”
Elsewhere in the collection, the Hitch boot has been reworked into a low-top, pull-on moccasin. Its suede upper – available in indigo or dark
brown – features traditional moccasin stitching detail, reflective of conscious focus on hand-worked details.
These shoes are designed with the latest Universal Works collection in mind, intentionally echoing the cinematic mood set by our "Far from
Memphis" collection. "Intermission," a short film crafted to celebrate this collaboration, captures the cinematic vibe and evokes those moments
in life when you believe no one is watching—an interlude between the action that invites playful exploration and discovery.
With a shared love of craft, utility, and laid back style, Universal Works and Yogi are a natural fit. The results of this partnership embody all the
comfort, quality, and meticulous attention to detail one would anticipate from such a pairing, infused with a dash of playful rock 'n' roll and a
cinematic twist.
